XIV Iberoamerican Physics Olympiad, Chile 2009. Final results.

Havana(AIN) Cuba won a gold medal and three bronze at the XXIV Iberoamerican Mathematical Olympiad, held in Mexico, and attended by 81 students from 21 countries.

Granma newspaper reports that the gold medal was won by Reynaldo Gil,Institute of Vocational Sciences Preuniversitario (IPVCE) Antonio Maceo in Santiago de Cuba, eleventh grade student at the and who accumulated 38 points in the lid.

They won bronze, Jorge Estrada, IPVCE of Vladimir Ilich Lenin, in Havana, with 29 points, Jose Moraguez, the Antonio Maceo, with 25 and Daniel Otero, also of Lenin, with 24.

Once that is fair, the preselected Cubans involved in the Central contest of this specialty which is held in Bogota, Colombia.

While on the island are held the XIV Iberoamerican Chemistry Olympiad, based in the capital, and the People's Mathematics Olympiad, which runs this month and the first half of November throughout the country.




The Iberoamerican Physics Olympiad (OIbF) is a high-level competition for middle school students.
It is organized by scientific societies or groups of teachers of Latin American countries with the objectives of encouraging the study of physics and the development of young talents and encourage exchange of experiences and deepening friendship between the participating countries. Another purpose is the promotion of national powers to contribute to supporting the scientific talent and initiative among young people, in the context of achieving a scientific education for all.
The OIbF was first implemented in 1991 in Colombia. The second edition was held in Mexico in 1997 and was organized by the Mexican Society of Physics. Since 1997 has been organized annually OIbF headquarters and the same has roam Iberoamerica.
