Swine flu numbers continued to rise in Illinois on Saturday: From 54 probable cases to 85, from seven counties with at least one likely infection to nine, and from 14 closed schools to at least 32.But national and local public health officials continued to preach optimism and prudence about the latest influenza strain, encouraged by one particular figure that's been stuck since Wednesday at 1 -- the number of U.S. deaths as a result of the quickly spreading disease."We know it's here, we know it's in the community," said Dr. Kenneth Alexander, chief of pediatric infectious diseases at Comer Children's Hospital at the University of Chicago. "But we're also coming to terms with the idea that the severity is not as high."Source:,0,2432916.story
