Santiago.– The Centro Eduardo Leon Jimenes in Santiago will host the III International Conference on Music, Identity, and Culture in the Caribbean (MIC III) from 17-19 April 2009, whose program includes presentations, paper sessions, debates, publications, concerts and exhibitions.
The event, sponsored by the Ministry of Culture, Centro Leon and the Institute of Caribbean Studies (INEC), will focus on Bolero in the Caribbean culture and its university projection.
MIC III is intended to unite scholars, practitioners, and those interested in Caribbean music and dance every two years in order to exchange knowledge related to these pillars of regional culture and to propose holistically-oriented policies to strengthen cultural identity in national and regional spheres.
The event is conceived as a critical, multidisciplinary space of reflection, through which research, experience, and findings related to music, identity, and culture in the Caribbean may be socialized.
